Saving the Boundary Waters: Stories About Runners and Kids Working to Protect America’s Most Visited Wilderness

Watch the Recording

We’re excited to once again host our breakfast event at Outdoor Retailer (Aug. 10-12), featuring stories from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The in-person event will be held at 7:00 a.m. MDT on Aug. 11, 2021, at the Colorado Convention Center for trade show attendees, and a recording will be available via Zoom to everyone at 9:00 a.m. MDT.
The Boundary Waters—America’s most-visited wilderness—holds a labyrinth of pristine glacial lakes, thriving forests and streams, and critical habitat for wildlife. Its 1.1 million acres of wilderness, nearly 240 miles of hiking trails, and 1,200 miles of canoe and kayak routes support local economies and outdoor recreation in northeastern Minnesota—and it’s threatened by sulfide-ore copper mining.
The breakfast event will include Conservation Alliance Executive Director, Brady Robinson, and Alex Falconer, Government Affairs Director for the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters—both of whom will be tuning in from the Boundary Waters—as well as professional ultra runner and activist, Clare Gallagher, and Joseph Goldstein, founder of Kids for the Boundary Waters. Alex and Clare will be sharing their recent 100-mile adventure run across the wilderness, which will be featured in a short film coming this fall. Joseph will be sharing his childhood connection to this wilderness and how he helped build a grassroots, national campaign to protect the Boundary Waters at the age of 13.
“The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a national treasure and where I had my first Wilderness experiences as a young boy. It is our honor to host these advocates at our breakfast event, and to elevate this incredible place and the communities working to protect it,” said Brady Robinson.
The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters is led by Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness and was organized by local residents in and around Ely, Minnesota. The Conservation Alliance has been a proud supporter of Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness since 2015.
