Oregon Wild keeps Oregon a special place to live, work and play. We do it by getting out into the field, working with the public and convincing our elected officials to protect the place we call home. We do it so that future generations can enjoy the Oregon we love.
If you camp, hike, raft or fish in Oregon, chances are that Oregon Wild had a hand in saving the forests and rivers that surround you. We have safeguarded nearly 1.7 million acres of public lands as Wilderness; prevented clear-cutting of old-growth forests; and protected almost 1,900 miles of Oregon's rivers.
Recently, with the help of the Conservation Alliance, we gained Wilderness protections for an additional 127,000 acres of forestland surrounding Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge.
Currently, we're working to take care of some unfinished Wilderness business around Mount Hood, permanently protect the mesmerizing Devil's Staircase area in Oregon's Coast Range, designate the Molalla River as Wild & Scenic, and add 58,000 acres of protected Wilderness along the famed Rogue River.

Project Update
Legislation for proposed Devil's Staircase Wilderness, Molalla Wild and Scenic River in familiar territory in Congress, with help from Senator Wyden, Representative Schrader.
Oregon Wild is pleased to announce this week saw two major Oregon Wild wilderness initiatives move forward on Capitol Hill, thanks to members of Oregon's congressional delegation.
On Thursday Senator Ron Wyden successfully moved wilderness legislation for the Devil's Staircase out of the Natural Resources Committee and to the main body of the Senate. This legislation also includes a significant expansion of Oregon Caves National Monument.
We're also pleased to announce Congressman Kurt Schrader has re-introduced Wild and Scenic River legislation for over 20 miles of the Molalla River in Clackamas County. A recreational destination for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and camping, the Mollala River also provides clean drinking water for the communities of Molalla and Canby.
Erik Fernandez, Wilderness Coordinator at Oregon Wild, said "Rivers like the Molalla fuel the tourism, recreation, and quality of life that bring people and jobs to Oregon's economy. Legislation to protect the Molalla as a Wild and Scenic River isn't just about protecting our clean water and wildlife, it is an investment in Oregon's future."
