Momentum is building in the campaign to permanently protect the Flathead River Valley, as the Friends of the Flathead group passes the 10,000 supporter milestone! Sierra Club BC and partner organizations launched the Friends of the Flathead website in in April 2009, with the help of Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin, former federal Environment Minister David Anderson, and adventure photographer Pat Morrow. You could be the 10,001th Friend! Sign up now to be a Friend of the Flathead. This strong show of support was a big factor in major achievements in the Flathead campaign this year, including a ban on mining and oil and gas development announced in February 2010. However, logging, grizzly trophy hunting, increased road access, and quarrying still threaten B.C.’s Flathead River Valley.
